Disease Management and the Medicare Modernization Act

Disease Management, Vol. 8 No. 6, 2005

Jaan Sidorov, MD, Medical Director, Geisinger Health Plan and Claudia Schlosberg, Partner at Blank Rome, have co-authored Disease Management and the Medicare Modernization Act: "It's the Insurance, Stupid" to be published by Disease Management (Vol. 8, Number 6, 2005).

The article focuses on the growth of the disease management industry and how its success in commerical markets has influenced policy makers and contributed to the creation of the Chronic Care Improvement Program, a national demonstration designed to prospectively test how disease management affects quality and cost in the Medicare program. The article promotes the notion that anticipated growth of disease management will positively impact physician practices by freeing doctors to treat more patients with acute illnesses, lowering practice cots and creating opportunities for collaborations over quality.
